Facilities

OITL offers a comprehensive infrastructure for radiopharmaceutical development — combining state-of-the-art radiochemistry and in vitro labs with integrated preclinical imaging

Radiochemistry lab

Our radiochemistry lab located at Domus Medica at the Institute of Basal Medicine at the University of Oslo (UiO) is fully equipped to support advanced radiopharmaceutical development. With two shielded hot cells and designated fume hoods for radioactive work along with analytical instrumentations, OITL provides tailored solutions for the synthesis, formulation and quality assessment of both established and novel radiopharmaceuticals.

Our radiochemistry lab’s close proximity to the Department of Comparative Medicine and our preclinical facility ensures seamless and efficient delivery of radiopharmaceuticals for in vivo characterization.

As part of NMS, OITL has four additional hot cells with radiochemistry modules for automated synthesis and scale-up at the NMS production site at Rikshospitalet, Oslo University Hospital. The co-location with NMS’s in-house cyclotron enables direct delivery of radioactivity to the hot cells, optimizing processing and enhancing flexibility in our workflow.

In vitro lab

Our in vitro laboratory is co-located with the imaging unit within the Department of Comparative Medicine at Domus Medica, UiO, and is fully equipped for conducting radiopharmaceutical and cell-based studies. Designed to support translational research, the lab enables efficient development and testing of in vitro model systems that simulate complex biological environments and enable functional evaluation of radiotracers and therapeutic compounds.

At OITL, we provide a dedicated environment for studying tracer behavior, cellular uptake, and tissue interactions using radioactivity-based assays. With a strong focus on reproducibility and biological relevance, our facility supports a broad spectrum of in vitro methods for characterizing biological responses and tracer performance. This integrated setup enhances early-phase screening and delivers critical data for downstream in vivo validation and further drug development.
